We have developed and externally validated an algorithm for detecting cases of anxiety and depression from routine GP data using Read Codes, incoprerating symptom codes to refelct GP coding behaviour. The Read Code lists that work in combination in this algorithm have been developed based on validated published and comparable lists [John et. el. 2016; Cornish et al 2016; John et. al., 2022] and reviewed by a clinician in the study team (Prof Ann John). This algorithm was externally validated utilising the MHI-5 as the gold standard demonstrating high specificity and PPV.
