Acute mountain sickness is characterized by altitude sickness that affects otherwise healthy persons, develops within hours after arriving at altitude, and results in functional impairment from symptoms that may include headache, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, and sleep disturbances.
