  3. Methodology

    This codelist was derived by the following method:

    • Read 2 Codelist provided by LSHTM
    • Codes from Quality Outcome Framework (QOF) were examined and relevant hypertension codes taken
    • Codes from SNOMED were taken by searching for relevant hypertension terms

    These 3 lists were mapped into CTV3 by TPP to create one list. This list was examined by 2 people and the following logic applied (see github issue for more detail):

    • Exception reporting and codes indicating an intervention was declined/refused were excluded
    • Borderline HT
    • Transient hypertension such as pre-eclampsia or drug side effects were excluded
    • Obvious non-hypertension codes were removed (for example TIA monitoring had been picked up and was excluded)
    • Primary pulmonary hypertension were excluded
    • Hypertension related to renal failure were excluded
    • Patient excluded from QOF as unsuitable were removed due to complexity over this code.
