    This codelist was taken from OpenCodelists, created by OpenSAFELY. We recommend viewing this Phenotype on the OpenCodelist website to view the most recent version.

    This is a codelist to identify new diagnoses of heart failure in A\&E.

    There are only a few permitted emergency department codes, but these form trees with hundreds of others as children - I have exluded these as 'not permitted'.

  3. Methodology

    The Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) can only take a subset of SNOMED codes, which are listed in the Enhanced Technical Output Specification (ETOS). Therefore, only codes appearing in that refset are included in this codelist.

    Codes were identified by searching the ETOS for "heart failure" and using the ICD-10 codes in the secondary care version of this codelist, as ETOS provides an ICD-10 map.
